Member photo and privacy
Some businesses that use Periode let members upload a photo of themselves. This page explains how the photo is handled. The business you are a member of is the data controller, and Periode stores the photo on the business's behalf. The business's own privacy notice is shown where you upload the photo.
What is stored
- Uploading a photo is your choice.
- You pick a square crop on your device. Only the crop is uploaded, as a 256 × 256 pixel image and a small 64 × 64 pixel version. The original photo never leaves your device.
- Location data and other information in the image file is removed before the photo is stored.
- Only your current photo is stored. When you replace or delete it, only the dates of the change are kept, not the previous photo.
What the photo is used for
The photo is only used so the business's staff can see that it is you who uses the membership, for example at check-in. It is not used for automatic face recognition or anything else.
Who sees the photo
- You see your current photo.
- Staff at the business who handle bookings see the photo at check-in and in booking details.
- Admins at the business see when photos were uploaded, replaced or deleted, but not the previous photos. This lets them check that a membership is not shared, for example if the photo is changed often.
- Periode support can see the photo when they help the business with a case.
- The photo is not public, and other members cannot see it.
How long the photo is kept
- Your current photo is kept until you delete it. It is not deleted automatically when your membership ends, but you can always delete it yourself on your member page.
- When you replace or delete the photo, the previous photo is deleted right away. The business keeps the dates of your last 20 photo changes.
- If the business stops using member photos, the photo is not deleted automatically. You can ask the business to delete it.
- If you ask for your account to be deleted, the photo and the dates of changes are deleted right away.
- Deleted photos can remain in backups for a limited time before they are permanently removed.
Your rights
You can delete your photo yourself on your member page. You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, and to object to the processing. Contact the business you are a member of, or Periode at contact@periode.no. You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
